Update from Georgia Tech

An update of some sort has been long overdue here. I apologize for this. Anyhow, on to the mundane update.

It has been almost seven weeks of school--so about half way done with the first semester. It has been tough and busy, though it was what I was expecting, so not too bad. My schedule throughout the week is pretty ordinary I guess. On Mondays and Wednesdays, I head to campus at around 9am to eat some breakfast before heading over to my first class on the south side of campus (Psychology) which starts at 10am. Then I head down to the College of Architecture building on the north side of campus for my next two classes (History of Architecture I and COA1060). I then have a break from 1-2pm. During this time I grab some lunch and head over across to the west side of campus for my last class of the day (Economics and Policies). Usually, I will then go across the street to the CRC (Campus Recreation Center) and shoot some hoops for maybe an hour or two. Then I grab some dinner and walk home. However, on Wednesdays, I shoot some more hoops than normal and then grab some dinner a little later and then walk to the east side of campus to attend ACF (Asian Christian Fellowship). Then I head home.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I only have my CFY (Common First Year) studio from 1:35pm-6pm. However, I have the Georgia Tech Photography Club executive meetings on Tuesdays and the general meetings on Thursdays at 11am. Therefore, I head over for the meeting and will grab some lunch either before or after the meeting before heading to studio. On Thursdays, I will grab some dinner after studio on campus and then head to the student center to attend GT CRU (Georgia Tech Campus Crusade).

Fridays are pretty much like Mondays and Wednesdays. The only difference is that I have my History of Architecture preceptorial at 9am, right before Psychology at 10am. This leaves a void from 11am-12pm. This is good because my COA1060 preceptorial is clear across campus from 12-1pm. From here on out, it's the same ending as Monday and Wednesday.

I don't have anything scheduled for Saturdays. On Sundays, I attend Midtown Community Church, which is right next door to the house I am living in. They serve dinner at 6pm which I eat at and then attend the 6:45pm service.

Okay, now I apologize for making you read through all that only to tell you that that was really only the..ideal schedule. Lately, I have been having a lot to do for Thursday studio that I don't have time to go to ACF on Wednesdays. I sometimes don't wake up in time for my Psychology class because I spent the night before doing homework due for other classes. Other times I don't go to my Economics and Policies class because...it's easy and I don't really get much from his lectures anyway. Also because it's clear across the other side of campus and is after my hour break. I usually use this time to complete studio stuff or go home early and bum around. Other than that, everything else pretty much holds true.

Socially, things have been pretty good. It started off slow a bit, but is now pretty normal and still developing. Roommates are fine, studio-mates are pretty cool, and people from Midtown, CRU and ACF are nice. Outside of those groups, I don't really do much. Once in a while I'll grab some coffee or lunch with Laura (who's from Kent and is in CRU and goes to Midtown and that I met my first time around here) because it's nice to just talk with someone who's from back home. There are some people who play tennis but haven't yet this year in my studio, so we might get together and play some tennis. For the Photography Club, we go out for outings once in a while. Thus far I've only made it to the first one--which was just around downtown Atlanta. I planned on going to the Dragon-con parade, but didn't wake up in time for it. I did go to the World of Coca-Cola and it was pretty cool. Should be going to the Aquarium with the Photography Club sometime in the future.

As you might have already known, I caught the flu during the second week of class. They didn't do any official tests on me because the State was backed up, but they are pretty sure it was Swine Flu based on when I got it and the severity that it hit the student population here on campus. Either way, it knocked me out for the week and I missed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. I went to class on Thursday even though I wasn't completely up to par though it was after the 24 hours of fever freeness because I couldn't afford to miss another studio class. That week threw me off a bit in terms of building up a rhythm for my classes and some homework. Where it hurt me the most was my psychology exam the first day of the third week of class because that exam covered the first two weeks of class in which I only knew half the information for. Oh well, at least there are a total of 6 tests to compensate for it.

Due to studio, small breaks and weekends don't really exist. I have avoided camping trips or going to places because I couldn't go on them so that I can finish my work without overloading myself over the weekdays. I guess I am fine with it so far, but it is kind of annoying--though also expected.

Overall though, I would say that I am enjoying my time here. It is busy and tough, but it was what I was expecting. The weather this past week has been very similar to the typical summer weather up in Washington--mid to upper 70s, partly cloudy, not too humid, slight breeze, cool in the shade and warm in the sun. It was nice.

I do not mind care packages, by the way. Teeheehee...
